Your wedding is a celebration of the love you and your fiancé share. Including personal touches throughout the ceremony and reception gives guests a peak into how special that love truly is. These special details don’t need to be large, although they can be! There are just as many ways to personalize your wedding as there are couples celebrating their nuptials. Use these ideas as a starting point for creating a unique event you’ll always remember.

11 Ideas for Personal Wedding Touches

Start with a signature drink. Offer your favorite drinks to guests during cocktail hour and dinner. His and hers signature drinks are a fun way to add personality to your reception.

Decorate with broaches. Collect broaches from both sides of the family and pin a few of your moms’ or grandmas’ favorites to the stem of your bouquet. Or, create an entire bouquet from sparkling pins.

Ask a friend or family member to officiate. Using an officiant who truly knows you and your soon-to-be spouse makes for a more personal ceremony. Inside jokes and touching stories both add a special touch.

Add a family dish into the menu. Grandma’s sauce or your fiancé’s family’s favorite dessert can easily be added into a custom menu. This is a beautiful way to honor the family member who introduced this recipe to the family.

Etch glasses for the bride and groom. An inscription on your toasting goblets, wine glasses or pint glasses turn an ordinary wedding detail into a keepsake. For a personalized favor, etch all of your guests’ glasses as well.

Use the musical talents of family or friends. Add a personal touch to your ceremony with a piece of music played or sang by a wedding guest.

Incorporate your parents’ first dance song. It doesn’t have to be your first dance song, but reusing the song your parents danced to at their weddings in yours is a special detail. You may need to pass the tissues for this personal wedding touch.

Donate to your favorite charity. Instead of offering favors to your guests, donate to your favorite charity in their name. This is just one way to create a charitable wedding.

Include loved ones no longer with you. Grandparents, parents and other loved ones no longer with you can still be included in your special day. Display photos of them on their wedding days, include memories of them in the ceremony, keep them close with a locket or include their names on a notecard at each place setting.

Pick a personal quote. Use a quote or lyrics that you and your fiancé love and incorporate it throughout your wedding. Invitations, ceremony programs and reception décor are all options.

Make a mix tape. If you and your fiancé once passed burned CDs back and forth, built special road trip playlists or have a song for every milestone, present guests with a mix tape of all the songs that mean something to you as a couple.
